TL,DR: Iām launching a paid version of the Growth Memo. Subscribers get 2 Verified Deep Dives per month for $15.
ā” Big news: Starting today, Growth Memo has a paid tier called Growth Memo Premium.
Premium is a high-end content product for Marketers, Growth experts and investors who want to learn and get inspired by the successes of fast-growing companies.

Why, Who, What
Why: Learning from Deep Dives is one of the best ways to improve your skills.
Who: Premium is for experts in SEO/CRO/PLG, product managers, investors, and founders who want to learn, find inspiration and use case studies to get buy-in for internal projects.
What: Premium subscribers get 2 Verified Deep Dives per month for a monthly price of $15.
Verified Deep Dives are tear-downs of SEO, CRO (conversion rate optimization) and PLG (product-led growth) strategies.
For the deep dives, I rely on my +10 years of experience as inhouse operator and leader at companies like Shopify, G2 or Atlassian.
I spend +30 hours on each Deep Dive and charge you less than 1% of the price I charge clients for advisory.
Other than regular case studies, Deep Dives are verified by insiders. I speak to leaders at the company I analyze to get insights and verify my due diligence (on and off the record).
Like research reports for investors that typically cost thousands of dollars, you can think about Deep Dives as āexpert due diligence + insider scoopsā.
Iām running a pilot from November 16th until February 16th to see if I can reach the paid subscriber goal Iām setting out to. If the pilot is successful, I might add more touchpoints like live sessions, members-only chats and more to Premium.
Why launch a paid version?
I started the Growth Memo in 2017 to share my notes on SEO with friends. When more people asked me for the notes, I decided to turn them into a way to share my observations with the industry. I never thought it would grow to one of the largest newsletters in Marketing and Growth.
Today, the Growth Memo is a source of learning for over 10,000 operators, leaders, investors, freelancers, and agencies. It is frequently quoted by leading industry publications and read by experts at companies like Google, Red Ventures, Adobe, DotDash, Wix, Forbes, NYT, and many more.
Iām launching a paid tier because I want to offer readers who want more a way to get more. Each Deep Dive takes me 30-50 hours to put together, but they provide a level of depth thatās currently not available.
More changes: running in a new constellation
Besides the launch of Growth Memo Premium, Iām putting a few more changes in motion:
1/ Cleaner domain structure. Growth Memo moves from kevin-indig.com to growth-memo.com, so I can focus my personal site on my advisory offering and give the Growth Memo its own domain. That was way overdue!
2/ Growth Memo is now on Substack. Iām coming full circle here. 3 years ago, I criticized Substack for commoditizing writers. Since then, Substack has evolved into a writer-reader relationship platform with unique subscriber growth features. Thatās the upside of being commoditized: when you compete well, you benefit from the aggregatorās network effects.
3/ No more bifurcation. When I moved off of Substack to Ghost, my goal was to write weekly newsletters that also appear on my site as regular articles. That has led to good organic traffic, where most of my subscribers come from.
However, trying to write for search and engaging editorial content is tough. For Search, you need strong topical focus. But engaging editorial writing lives from surprises, plot twists and stories. Both at the same time areā¦ tricky. You quickly run into āchasing two rabbits, catching noneā.
Nothing changes for the free Growth Memo, except for that you can expect better writing because Iām not trying to smuggle in some topical coverage for SEO!
